Moldova becomes member of European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism

Chisinau, 3 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean has informed that, since the beginning of this year, Moldova was officially member of the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism - an initiative of coordination in crisis situations and natural dangers.
„Now, our firemen and rescuers will cooperate with the EU member states and another nine participating countries, in order to improve the systems of prevention, of preparation and reaction to natural disasters and the ones triggered by the man,’’ Dorin Recean said.
The official noted that, till becoming a full-fledged member, Moldova had already benefited from support through this mechanism. ‘’Since the beginning of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine, we have received 36 electric generators for 30 hospitals, medical assistance and food products for Ukrainian refugees. Medical equipment was mobilized from the rescEU medical reserves and humanitarian projects backing the vulnerable refugees from Ukraine were financed. The participation within the Civil Protection Mechanism is part of our European integration efforts and will enhance the level of the country’s security and safety of our citizens,’’ Dorin Recean added.
The European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism is the strongest international framework of cooperation in the field of prevention, preparation and response to disaster and crises’ management.
The Agreement between Moldova and the European Union on the country’s participation in the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism was signed in Chisinau on 29 September 2023.
