40 localities still cut off power due to bad weather

Chisinau, 9 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- 40 localities are still cut off power and students from around 1,000 educational institutions will have an extended vacation following the heavy snowfall of the last 24 hours.

According to the information of the Emergency Operations Center, by the morning of January 9, almost 2,600 specialists with 1,058 technical units are involved in recovering the situation in the country following heavy snow and sleet. Officers and non-commissioned officers from the subdivisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, road workers from the State Road Administration, medical workers, and workers of electricity suppliers are taking measures to bring the situation back to normal.

Cleaning and spreading of anti-skid material is carried out on all national, regional and local routes.

According to the information provided by electricity suppliers, 40 localities are currently disconnected from electricity. 

According to the data of 112 system, IGSU undertook 38 missions to unblock means of transport, 7 of them were to unblock ambulances from Drochia, Hâncești, Leova, Străseni districts and Chisinau municipality. 

The state border crossing points are operating normally. Due to bad weather conditions, 15 flights were canceled at Chisinau International Airport.

Following the decisions made by the Emergency Situations Committees at district or municipal level, the winter vacation will be extended by a day or two for students in over 1,000 educational institutions in 24 districts of the country.
