Employment conditions of directors of theater and concert institutions modified

Chisinau, 10 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- 10 years of experience in culture will no longer be necessary to run a theater. 5 years of experience are enough, at least two of which – in managerial positions. Cabinet voted today to adjust some provisions of the Government's decision on some measures to implement the Law on theaters, circuses and concert organizations, the government's communication department has reported.

The current provisions greatly limit the people who can apply for the position of director of a theater, circus or concert organization, since only a person with at least 10 years of experience in the field can participate in the competition: director, conductor, actor, soloist, theatrologist, musicologist, dramatist, composer, choreographer or animator of creative process.

The project aims to increase the number of potential candidates. Thus, if there is no sufficient number of candidates for director positions at the relevant institutions, the requirements for acceding to the position of director of a theater, circus or concert organization were changed, by expanding the fields of specialty eligible for the position (administrative sciences, economics, business and administration, law or arts), reducing the experience period (from 10 to 5 years), as well as establishing a managerial experience of at least 2 years.

"A director is generally required to manage a theater, circus or concert organization, but not necessarily to deal only with the artistic side, since the institutions also have artistic directors. We consider it necessary to relax the conditions for accessing the position of director for those with experience in fields such as legal, economic and administration, with sufficient training to administer organizations, companies and institutions in different sectors, including culture", Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan said.
