Mayor of central Moldova settlement detained after hitting, killing teenager

Chisinau, 21 February /MOLDPRES/ - The mayor of the Bolduresti settlement, central Nisporeni district, was detained by policemen today morning, after he had hit and killed a 14-year-old minor and left the place of the accident.
According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), the accident occurred in the Bolduresti settlement, Nisporeni district, on 19 February.
„The man on this period attempted to mislead the policemen, in order to avoid the responsibility. He set the registration plate on a vehicle having an identical brand with the one of the car involved in the accident, a white-coloured Dacia Duster. The car was announced in orientation and the suspect turned off the phone and did not come either home or to work. At the same time, on 20 February at about 22:00, the man feigned a traffic accident with the involvement of the deteriorated car, in order to hide the traces of the accident in which the child was hit,’’ IGP noted.
Today morning, policemen managed to detain the 47-year-old man. It is about the mayor of the Bolduresti settlement, Nisporeni district, and the car involved in the accident was a company vehicle.
The police continue the investigations, including the ones in which a circle of suspects is regarded, who helped the man avoid the punishment and carry out the actions meant to mislead the law-enforcers.
A criminal file was opened on this case, managed by prosecutors from Chisinau.
