Project backed by Germany provides better living conditions in all Moldova's regions

Chisinau, 9 March /MOLDPRES/ - Dozens of settlements from Moldova have benefited from the project titled, Modernization of Local Public Services in Moldova (MSPL), implemented on the period 2009-2024 by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), in partnership with the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry (MIDR).

During 15 years, the MSPL project has contributed to the implementation of the regional development policy, modernization of local public services, consolidation of the capacities of the authorities and services operators.  The project’s overall budget was of 98.1 million euros, with financing on behalf of the government of Germany, European Union, the governments of Sweden, Switzerland and Romania.    

Nationally, the project supported MIDR and the North, Centru, South development regions and Gagauzia in the working out of the regional development projects. Along with the Regional Development Agencies, over 25 infrastructure projects have been implemented in the sectors on supply with water and sewerage, energy efficiency in public buildings and waste management.      

„Presently, more than 5,200 pupils and teachers from eight schools benefit from better conditions of education and working; over 24,000 people annually benefit from medical services in better conditions at two hospitals and the consumption of energy and the emissions of CO2 decreased by about 60 per cent. Also, about 100,000 people from 13 settlements now have access to improved water services and 11,000 people from 5 settlements – to sewerage services. Over 225 km of water supply network has been constructed and 48 km of sewerage network was modernized. Besides, 26,000 residents from three districts benefit from modernized solid waste management services,’’ MIDR said.      

The project, Modernization of Local Public Services in Moldova, was implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation, in partnership with the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry. The project is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Union and the governments of Sweden, Switzerland and Romania.
