Population and housing census to be conducted in Moldova as of 8 April

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ - The parliamentary commission for public administration and regional development today organized public hearings. At the event, the National Statistics Bureau (BNS) set forth its opinion on the organization and conducting of the population and housing census in Moldova.
The census will be held during 8 April - 7 July 2024 and will be conducted by about 5,000 people – census takers and supervisors – who will be trained specially for the carrying out of this complex process. In the context, the participants in the hearings discussed aspects concerning the procedure of holding the census, which implies the allocation of resources, adjusting and testing the questionnaire based on which the data will be collected, the use of ways of people’s questioning, the communication plan, the actions of security and protection of information.
„This census is vital for the next ten years. Its findings will depend on the quality of the collection of data and the responsibility of the people involved; therefore, it is necessary that everybody mobilize, including the mayoralties, in order to deliver correct and useful information for the society,’’ the head of the aforementioned commission, Larisa Voloh, said.
As much as 329.2 million lei was allocated from the state budget for conducting this census, with the foreign partners contributing with two million euros. The final data of the census will be unveiled during 18 months.
