Chisinau, March 26. /MOLDPRES/- A workshop of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is being held on March 25-27 in Chisinau. It aims to identify solutions to strengthen the resilience of agri-food systems in the current regional context, marked by frequent droughts and the war in Ukraine.

Attending the event are high-ranking officials, independent experts, academic environment members from 12 countries of Europe and Central Asia region, where FAO implements technical and financial assistance projects in support of the agricultural sector and related sectors. The objectives of the workshop include establishing key aspects of FAO's emergency support to countries affected by the war in Ukraine and drought, presenting the latest studies and reports in the agri-food sector and familiarizing with FAO's climate warning and monitoring systems in agriculture, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA).

"The Republic of Moldova is honored to be the host of this meeting organized by FAO in partnership with the responsible institutions from 12 states. Our country directly felt the consequences of the war on the economic system and farmers suffered from the current crises in the region. In this sense, we thank FAO for the emergency aid given to the agricultural sector in Moldova and for the major contribution of combating the negative effects caused by drought and war in the region", said Vasile Şarban, MAIA's state secretary.

Case studies from the FAO emergency support program in countries such as the Republic of Moldova, Armenia, North Macedonia, Turkey or Uzbekistan will be presented at the event.
