Moldovan president has meeting with Head of European Delegation in Chisinau

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has had a meeting with EU Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks. The head of state welcomed the European Council’s last week conclusions, which recognize Moldova’s progress in the carrying out of the reforms necessary for the advancement on the European integration way, the presidential press service reported.
The Moldovan president appreciated the European institutions’ decisions to extend the agreement on simplified road transport and to maintain the preferential access of Moldovan fruits and vegetables on the European market. In 2023, 65.4 per cent of the Moldovan exports were meant for the EU countries and the authorities make efforts for this figure to grow in continuation.
The interlocutors discussed the continuation of the reforms and the next steps in the process of negotiations. Presently, the Moldovan institutions and the European ones assess the compliance of the national legislation with the European Union’s one and the EU Council is to adopt a framework of negotiations for Moldova.
At the meeting, the head of state referred also to the referendum due in next autumn, during which the citizens will be able to express their will on Moldova’s European future.
