Chisinau, March 29. /MOLDPRES/- Today President Maia Sandu participated in the ground access event for the start of construction works on 400 kV overhead power line on Vulcănești - Chisinau route, which connects the energy system of the Republic of Moldova with that of Romania.
"It is undoubtedly one of the most important projects since independence, representing a turning point between two stages - a Moldova vulnerable to those who can turn off the gas or electricity at will and an independent Moldova free to choose where to buy electricity, at the best price and without the pressure of political blackmail from outside", Maia Sandu said.
The head of state also noted that this project was postponed for decades because the previous governments did not want to free Moldova from blackmail and energy dependence.
"Only in September 2019, the project was approved by the Government. The power line, the construction of which begins in Congaz, will cross 8 districts, over a distance of 158 km, and will be completed in 2025. Also, work is underway on the following three interconnection lines with Romania and Ukraine: Balti-Suceava, Străseni - Gutinaș and Vulcănești - Arciz, of Odesa region", said Maia Sandu.
