Chisinau, April 8 /MOLDPRES/- Population and Housing Census will be conducted in Moldova for three months as of today. Participation in the census is mandatory, and citizens are urged to be receptive and answer questions.
By July 7, about 4,000 census takers will go from house to house to collect data on the population and characteristics, such as age, gender, ethnicity, education level, occupation, etc., as well as housing and living conditions, such as sewage and water supply, heating, etc. The information will help the authorities to better design infrastructure, modernize education, improve social and health services, as well as more efficient planning of daily life.
For the first time in the history of the census in the Republic of Moldova, census takers will collect information not on paper but directly on tablets. Collecting data in digital format will ensure a shorter processing and dissemination period, a high protection of personal data and an efficient and secure data transmission.
The Census of Population and Housing is carried out once every ten years and is a nationwide activity providing a complete demographic picture of the country. The data collected from the census will provide essential and quality information for the development of national and local public policies necessary for the economic and social development of the country.
It is carried out with financial resources allocated from the state budget, as well as with financial and technical support provided by the European Union, the United Nations Population Fund, other UN agencies, the Governments of Switzerland, India and Romania.
This is the third census since the Republic of Moldova declared independence.
