EU earmarked 2 million euros to reform Moldova's labour market institutions

Chisinau, April 11 /MOLDPRES/- European Union has allocated 2 million euros for reforming key institutions regulating the labour market in our country. The project EU support for a more inclusive labour market in Moldova, implemented by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), was launched in Chisinau today.
The conference to launch the project took place during the joint visit to our country by European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit and ILO Director -General Gilbert Houngbo. The two-year project aims is to improve access to employment opportunities.
The newly launched project will include diversifying employment services and programmes; expanding the provision of personalised services; improving the performance management system and improving the in-house training system for ANOFM staff.
"As Moldova prepares to join the EU, this is a considerable opportunity to boost the labour market and social protection systems. Moldova's source of wealth is its people: investing in their skills, creating quality jobs and fighting poverty and social exclusion" said Nicolas Schmit.
Another objective of the Project is to improve the performance of the MMPS and the ISM in improving working conditions and protecting workers' rights. "I have come to Moldova for the second time to reaffirm to our tripartite constituents that the ILO is firmly committed to working with them to improve access to more and better employment opportunities, building an inclusive and fair labour market. I would like to thank the European Commission for its support in our common goal of promoting decent work in Moldova," said Gilbert F. Houngbo.
According to statistics, almost 30 percent of young women and men in Moldova are in the NEET category - they are not in employment, education or training. Thus, the project will focus on improving the legal framework, policies and capacities for increased access to the labour market and better working conditions in Moldova.
