Moldova presented three energy interconnection projects with Ukraine and Romania at Three Seas Initiative Summit

Chisinau, April 11 /MOLDPRES/- Three energy interconnection projects with Ukraine and Romania were presented by Moldova at the Three Seas Initiative Summit, held in Vilnius and brings together 13 countries located between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas.

During the meeting, participants will discuss how the Initiative should develop and adapt to the complex regional context, while boosting investment and implementing strategic interconnection projects in the Initiative's three core areas - transport, energy and digitalisation.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the three projects presented by the Republic of Moldova will have a major regional impact and are proposed for funding and implementation through the instruments available under the Initiative.

The projects aim at improving regional interconnections, such as the construction of the second circuit of the 330 kV overhead high-voltage line Balti - Dnestrovsk Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), the construction of a high-voltage interconnection Yuzhnoukrainsk - Prymorsk - Vulcanesti - Isaccea Nuclear Power Plant (UA-MD-RO); increasing the interconnection capacity of the vertical corridor on the Trans-Balkan gas route and developing projects dedicated to the production of green hydrogen using renewable energy sources.

"The implementation of these projects will strengthen energy security, ensure sustainable development and reduce environmental impact in the Central and Eastern European region," the Energy Ministry said.

The Republic of Moldova became an associate participating state of the Three Seas Initiative in September 2023.
