Moldovan head of diplomacy discussed with newly elected president of Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe

Chisinau, 16 April /MOLDPRES/ - On the sidelines of the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi met with newly elected President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe (CALRE) Marc Cools.
The Moldovan official thanked the Congress for the assistance provided to the Republic of Moldova in the context of the development of democracy at local level and decentralisation and self-governance policies, including through the two ongoing projects:
- Strengthening the culture of dialogue and open and ethical local governance;
- Strengthening the resilience of local and regional authorities to face the challenges of migration.
The second project was launched in the context of the management of the refugee situation in the Republic of Moldova following the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. At the same time, the commitment of central and local authorities to continue implementing the recommendations and reforms launched in this regard was noted.
Marc Cools welcomed the progress made by the Moldovan authorities in the positive transformation of the country. Marc Cools reiterated Congress' support for the country's reform process and EU accession path, and CALRE is open to further provide the necessary support.
