Construction of Balti-Suceava overhead power line: Government approved ratification of Agreement with EBRD

Chisinau, April 17 /MOLDPRES/- Government has approved the ratification of the loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the construction of the Balti-Suceava overhead power line, carried out under the project Moldova-Romania power interconnection, Phase II.
The investment project will contribute to the integration of the Moldovan grid into the European Union market through connections with ENTSO-E grid. It will therefore increase the efficiency of the national energy sector and create new opportunities for the development of other energy sources, including renewable energy sources.
In addition to the new 400 kV overhead power line between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, which will interconnect the municipalities of Balti and Suceava, a 400 kV power station will also be built.
The Agreement with the EBRD provides for a loan of 30.8 million euros, which represents 40% of the total amount needed to implement the project.
€30.8 million will be provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB). The total value of the project is estimated at €77 million.
