Chisinau, April 22 /MOLDPRES/ - Today, on Earth Day, President Maia Sandu promulgated the new Forestry Code, which brings many new mechanisms for the protection of our forests.
The head of state pointed out that with the launch of the National Afforestation Programme, foresters have raised an old problem - forests previously planted on the land of city halls, which could not be registered and maintained by local authorities. The new forestry code, in addition to more rules and opportunities for state-managed forests, also brings more clarity to how city halls manage forests and helps mayors access funding from the National Environment Fund to set up forestry plans.
"We take care of our forests because they mean more water in our wells and rivers, more fertile soil, cleaner air and healthier lives," the president said.
