Chisinau, April 26 /MOLDPRES/ - We are stepping up security and defence cooperation with the EU. EU support is crucial to make Moldova more resilient and able to counter hybrid threats, strengthen cyber security and face many other challenges. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi made the statements at the 3rd meeting of the EU - Moldova Dialogue in Chisinau.
The event reconfirmed the commitment and mutual interest of the parties to further strengthen cooperation in the field of common foreign and security policy, in line with Moldova's EU candidate status.
Popsoi said "We are stepping up security and defence cooperation with the EU. EU support is crucial to make Moldova more resilient and able to counter hybrid threats, strengthen cyber security and face many other challenges. As a candidate country, the Republic of Moldova is a willing and committed partner to further contribute to EU stabilisation and crisis management efforts. The biggest challenge remains Russia's aggression against Ukraine and this is a crucial moment to help our neighbours."
Deputy Secretary General Enrique Mora said: "The third edition of the High Level Political and Security Dialogue confirms our intensive cooperation with the Republic of Moldova, which the EU intends to take to a new strategic level. Today's meeting takes place against the backdrop of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. Its effects are still present - as shown by the repeated violations of Moldova's airspace by Russian missiles and drones. Moldova has responded decisively to the hybrid actions led by Russia and its affiliates, showing remarkable resilience, continuing to move forward on its path towards the EU. The European Union will continue support for Moldova's resilience, including through the EU Partnership Mission".
The parties discussed the challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova due to Russia's hybrid actions to destabilise Moldova's European path. Security cooperation was a central topic of discussion.
Participants welcomed the EU's support to the Republic of Moldova through the European Peace Facility. The Moldovan side expressed appreciation for the EU's assistance and expertise in the cyber security, hybrid threats and countering disinformation.
The event takes place annually, with the next meeting scheduled in Brussels in 2025.
