Moldovan president attends annual EU budget conference

Chisinau, April 29 /MOLDPRES/ - Help us show Moldovans, who have been living in hope for 30 years that the European Union offers not only a prospect for a better future, but also the present they deserve - a decent, free and dignified life. The message was delivered today by Head of State Maia Sandu at the annual EU Budget Conference.

The official stressed that supporting candidate countries like Moldova means prioritizing investments in those areas that strengthen economies, but also entire societies - investments in governance, anti-corruption measures, judicial reforms and, very importantly, security infrastructure.

Maia Sandu said that for Moldova, a budget for peace means a budget that helps protect values. "The money that is available is as important as any military deterrent. They can help us build resilience, prepare for EU membership and protect us from those who want to impose a different way of life on us - repression against democratic freedom. To turn our aspirations into reality, we will need more EU support from the next budget as we prepare for membership. With an EU budget for peace, give us the tools to achieve what we want and help us speed up preparation for accession. The EU budget is not about spending, but about investing in a better and peaceful Europe - the most important basis for future prosperity," said Maia Sandu.

Maia Sandu is on an official visit to Brussels on 28-29 April, to attend the annual EU budget conference.
