Solid waste management in northern Moldova to be improved

Chisinau, April 30 /MOLDPRES/- Solid waste management infrastructure in Moldova will be developed with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. In this regard, the government has approved a draft law on the ratification of a grant agreement worth 5.4 million euros, the government's communication department has reported.
The grant will finance projects in Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet and Dondușeni districts. These concern the construction of the waste landfill, sorting station and composting station in Dondușeni, as well as transfer stations in Edineț and Briceni. Equipment and machinery for transport, sorting, recycling and composting will also be purchased: vehicles, bins and containers.
The grant will support the implementation of the Solid Waste in the Republic of Moldova Project, signed on 22 February 2024. It aims to develop the relevant infrastructure in the three waste management regions, in line with the provisions of the Waste Management Strategy in the Republic of Moldova and the National Waste Management Programme for 2022-2027.
