Chisinau, May 6 /MOLDPRES/- Today we mark the 34th anniversary of the first Bridge of Flowers that united people from both banks of the Prut in 1990 and was a bridge of freedom and the "fall" of the wall between nations. On this occasion President Maia Sandu sent a message: "Before the 1990s, entire families, relatives, friends, an entire culture were torn apart by a river, and the bridge between Moldova and Romania was in fact a wall. Today our connection with Romania is natural and strong, and bridges have turned from walls into bridges," the presidential press service has reported.
The head of state noted that currently six functional bridges link us with Romania, a pontoon bridge recently built at Leova-Bumbăta and two others recently repaired. Moldova exports to Romania products worth over $1.4 billion, more than 35% of all exports. Romania is our main investor and trading partner, we are also building connections in the energy and gas sector. We talk on the phone at the same rate on both sides of the Prut.
"Today the Prut crosses not just flowers, but people, products, donations, expertise, electricity, drinking water, investments and cultural projects. With Romania's help, we will also become part of the European family and thus ensure that the Republic of Moldova will never again be isolated and that our citizens will have the same standard of living, income and freedom of movement as all citizens of the European Union", said Maia Sandu.
