Moldovan government enhances security of citizens' personal data processing

Chisinau, May 8 /MOLDPRES/ - Government has approved a draft law on personal data protection, including for adjustment to European legislation. Thus, a higher level of security will be ensured when processing them, the government's communication department has reported.
The document sets out the legal framework for the protection of private people on processing personal data. It also lays down the organisation and functioning of the National Centre for Personal Data Protection (CNPDCP), an institution that will monitor the implementation of the legislation.
At the same time, penalties for breaches of the law are also laid down. Any person who considers that his or her right to the protection of personal data has been infringed may lodge a complaint with the CNPDCP for one year from the date on which the infringement was established. Fines for operators can be up to 1 million lei or up to 1% of turnover in the case of a company.
