Moldova's parliament building illuminated in colours of EU's flag

Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament building on 8 May evening was illuminated in the colours of the European Union’s flag. The action is occasioned by the Europe Day, annually marked on 9 May.
„The illumination of the building of the parliamentary institution in the colours of the EU flag represents a symbolical gesture of affiliation with the European family. We celebrate the European Moldova together!’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.
The parliament has recently adopted the Declaration on the European integration of Moldova. The document expresses confidence that only the accession to the European Union will ensure the country’s future as a sovereign, neutral, integral and democratic state and the irreversible way of European integration and accession is a project of national priority of Moldova. Through this Declaration, the MPs call on the entire society to prove unity and solidarity for a peaceful and European future of the country, in the name of the national interest and the strategic goal – Moldova’s integration and accession to the European Union.
Moldova signed the Association Agreement with EU in 2014. On 3 March 2022, the Moldovan authorities signed the application on the country’s accession to EU. The European Union on 23 June 2022 gave the status of country candidate for Moldova. On 14 December 2023, the European Council ruled to start the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to EU.
