Moldovan PM says country's duty to preserve peace

10:08 | 09.05.2024 Category: Political

Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - Our duty is to preserve the peace, for which our grandparents fought and to ensure a better future for the next generations. Prime Minister Dorin Recean has made statements to this effect, in the context of the marking of the Day of Victory over the Nazism and of commemoration of the heroes who died during the World War II.

On this occasion, the PM visited Alexei Eremciuc, a veteran of the Second World War.

„Just as many people from Moldova, he went to front, in order to fight against the Nazism and to bring peace to the world. He returned home, to the Grigorauca village, Sangerei district, much time after the end of the war, in 1946. Recently, in last March, Alexei Eremciuc celebrated his 100th birthday anniversary – meanwhile, he has grown six children, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and he is an example of honour and dignity for the entire community.

I visited Mr. Alexei, in order to thank him for the courage he had had during the war. I wished him good health, strength, as well as a blue and peaceful sky, as our veterans are the ones who really know what the war means. They keep also now in their memory the horrors of the war and the grief triggered by it,’’ Dorin Recean said.

Moldova today, 9 May, celebrates the Day of Victory and of commemoration of the heroes who died for the Independence of the Motherland, as well as the Europe Day, under the decision on the commemorative days, holidays and days off in Moldova.
