Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - The victory over the Nazism was announced and the bloodiest war on the European continent ended 79 years ago. We commemorate all those who lost their lives during the World War II. A message to this effect has been posted by President Maia Sandu on her page.
In her message, the Moldovan head of state said that ‘’today we commemorate all those about 56,000 people who did not return home from war, who represent our grief, Moldova’s grief.’’
„A brother of my grandfather died on front. Almost each of us has a great-grandfather or a grandfather or another relative who failed to return home from war. Somebody’s father died on front. And somebody’s brother. They were all ours. And all of them had the dream that the peace for which they had fought would last forever. They died for us to live in peace. Let us commemorate them with piety and to bequeath a peaceful country to the next generations,’’ Maia Sandu said.
Moldova today, 9 May, celebrates the Day of Victory and of commemoration of the heroes who died for the Independence of the Motherland, as well as the Europe Day, under the decision on the commemorative days, holidays and days off in Moldova.
