Moldovan National Statistics Bureau says census taken of about 953,000 dwellings, 1.39 million people

Chisinau, 10 May /MOLDPRES/ - Census was taken of about 953,000 dwellings (including non-occupied ones) and about 1 million 394,000 people within the national population and housing census till the end of the day of 9 May 2024. The figures were published by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS) today.
According to the quoted source, the number of the residents for whom the census was taken includes both people with usual residence and the ones without usual residence.
At the same time, BNS unveiled also information on the dwellings for which the census was taken out of all dwellings estimated, in territorial profile, at the end of the day of 9 May 2024. Thus, the municipalities of Rascani, Falesti, Soroca, Telenesti, Calarasi, Orhei, Ungheni and Glodeni are among the municipalities and districts with the highest rate of census-taking.
”We urge the residents to be receptive in continuation and open to participate in the census,’’ BNS noted.
The population and housing census was launched on 8 April and will be held till 7 July, this year. On this time interval, about 4,000 census takers are to go from home to home, in order to collect data about the population and its characteristic features, such as the age, gender, ethnic affiliation, education level, occupation, as well as dwellings and living conditions, such as the endowment with the sewerage and water supply system, way of heating, etc.
The census is conducted once in ten years and is an activity with a national scale, which provides the full demographic picture of the country. The data collected following the census will provide information for the working out of public, national and local policies, needed for Moldova’s economic development.
