Finance Minister says Moldova's affiliation with EU means prosperous economy, high living standards

Chisinau, 14 May /MOLDPRES/ - The affiliation with EU means a prosperous economy and high living standards for people. Finance Minister Petru Rotaru today made statements to this effect at the annual meeting of the high-level dialogue in the economic and financial sector, held in Brussels, Belgium. Moldova participates in this activity as state candidate for accession to EU for the first time ever.
„The European aspirations are stronger than ever in our country. For us, the affiliation with EU means a prosperous economy and high living standards for people. The experience of the EU member states and of the states candidates for EU are quite important now, in order to speed up the accession of Moldova,’’ Petru Rotaru said.
The finance minister stressed ‘’the commitment to implement all recommendations which will contribute to the improvement of the system of management of the public money, will stimulate the investments and, respectively, will stimulate the economic growth, on the purpose of Moldova’s accession to EU till the 2030 year.’’
„To carry out the fiscal consolidation and to lay the foundations of the long-term economic growth, we are involved in the settlement of the most important challenges which hit our economic performance. In this respect, the legislation regulating the identification, selection and assessment of all public investments projects was amended and starting from January 2024, the Finance Ministry began consolidating the public authorities’ capacities in the preparation of new proposals of projects. We are also set to enhance the participation on the labour market through the active promotion of the employment of women and the socially vulnerable groups,’’ the official noted.
According to Rotaru, Moldova’s government commits to institutionalize a clear framework due to allow the continuous evaluation of the financial and economic activities of the state enterprises and the corporate governance.
The minister also said that a new programme dedicated to the promotion and attraction of direct foreign investments was under elaboration and was scheduled to be adopted this year. ‘’The strategy of economic development, which is under finalization, will provide a wider vision for guiding the working out of the economic policies,’’ Petru Rotaru said.
The meeting brought together representatives of the EU member states of the finance ministries and central banks.
