Chisinau, 15 May /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition titled, Czech Castles in Heart of Moldova, was inaugurated at the National History Museum of Moldova today. The event is organized by the host institution, in partnership with the National Museum of the Czech Republic and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Chisinau.
Attending the event were President of the Czech Republic’s Senate Miloš Vystrčil, the head of the Moldovan parliament’s commission for culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media of Moldova’s parliament, Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Moldova Stanislav Kázecký, the director of the National Museum of the Czech Republic, Michal Lukeš, the director of the National History Museum of Moldova, Eugen Sava, diplomats, culture and art people.
In the beginning of the event, the institution’s director, Eugen Sava, said that, it was for the first time ever when an exhibition dedicated to the national history of the Czech Republic was inaugurated at National History Museum of Moldova. ‘’This event is important not only from the historical and cultural viewpoint, but also from the point of view of diplomacy, which has established for 30 years already between Moldova and many countries of Europe. We are happy that, due to the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Moldova, this activity extended also at the National History Museum and we continue to look for different ways of organizing activities with diverse museum institutions from the Czech Republic,’’ Eugen Sava stressed.
In his speech, President of the Czech Republic’s Senate Miloš Vystrčil thanked for the hosting of this exhibition. He noted that this event contributed, also in this way, to the development of the cultural relations between the two countries. The official thanked the pupils from diverse education institutions of Moldova, which manufactured models of Czech castles.
According to the organizers, this exhibition presents a selection of 12 of the most interesting castles and fortresses from Bohemia and Moravia – one of the historical regions of the contemporary Czech state.
The Czech Republic is rich in cultural treasures. The castles and fortresses enjoy special attention, as former residences of the social elite, of the leaders, aristocracy and of religious institutions. The fortresses, which are fortified residences, were constructed in the Middle Ages, between the 12th century and the beginning of the 16th century. In modern age (16th-19th centuries), they were replaced by comfortable castles, often sumptuously furnished. The fact that the Czech Republic is among the countries with the biggest density of these outstanding buildings per square kilometer and that they are preserved in their authentic shape give us right to call it ‘’the country of fortresses and castles.’’ Presently, most sites are accessible and are managed by the National Heritage Institute, by diverse museums, towns, municipalities and private people, including by descendants of the historical Czech noble families.
The exhibition, Czech Castles in Heart of Moldova, will be open till 16 June.
