Moldovan PM, UN Women representatives approach ensuring gender equality, programmes developed for women

Chisinau, May 16 /MOLDPRES/- Issues related to the fight against violence against girls and women, programmes carried out with the support of the United Nations (UN) in Moldova, as well as the government's efforts to increase the socio-economic inclusion of women refugees from Ukraine were discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and UN Women Moldova team, led by Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Panama to the United Nations Markova Concepcion Jaramillo, the government's communication department has reported.
Recean praised UN Moldova's involvement in managing the refugee crisis, stressing the authorities' commitment to continue supporting people who have decided to stay in Moldova. The Prime Minister also referred to the support provided to our country by UN Women in promoting gender equality and developing programmes for the economic empowerment of women.
The officials discussed the specialized service in Moldova for victims of sexual violence, which was inaugurated on 23 March in Ungheni with the support of UN Women. They referred to the Programme to support women's entrepreneurship, launched in autumn 2023, and the progress made in the development and implementation of national policies related to the promotion of gender equality.
