Elections for office of Moldova's President to be organized on 20 October 2024

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ - The elections for the office of Moldova’s President will be organized on 20 October 2024. Fifty six MPs today voted a draft decision providing for this.
Under the electoral legislation, the date of the presidential elections is established by parliament decision not later than by 60 days ahead of the day of elections. Also, the presidential polls are organized not earlier than by 90 days before the date of expiration of the mandate of the president in office, but not later than the term established in the Constitution. In the context, the lawmakers suggested that the presidential elections should be organized on 20 October 2024.
Under the Constitution, the mandate of Moldova’s President lasts four years and is exercised starting the date of taking the oath till the swearing in office of the newly elected president.
Maia Sandu was sworn in the office of Moldova’s President on 24 December 2020.
Also on 20 October, a republican constitutional referendum will be held in Moldova. At the plebiscite, the citizens will answer the question ‘’Are you for the amendment of the Constitution for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union?’’
