Chisinau, 5 June /MOLDPRES/ - More MPs of the first parliament of Moldova, representatives of the academic environment and famous personalities today signed the Pact For Europe, initiated and signed by the leadership of 13 parties on 26 May. The document is a Pact similar to the Snagov one, signed in Romania in 1994 and will be able to be signed also by other political forces which support Moldova’s European integration.

Under the document, Moldova’s accession to EU is the only national strategy which can bring development, welfare, security and peace to all citizens.

„Taking into account that the expression of the national unity as to the subject of European integration is a test of political and civic maturity for the entire society, being aware of the fact that the European integration process cannot be monopolized and needs joint efforts of the entire society, being aware that the process of accession to the European Union implies a continuous dialogue between the opposition and power, based on mutual respect, inclusion, transparency and responsibility, we sign this pact. We are aware of the fact that the process of accession to the European Union can be carried out only through a joint effort of national unity, created by the common will of all citizens,’’ the document reads.

One of the today’s signatories to the Pact, academician, former health minister Gheorghe Ghidirim said that ‘’territorially, we are already in Europe; we are to give it a solid character also politically. I support and will promote this natural path for our country, for European Moldova,’’ Ghidirim stressed.

„I signed with pleasure this document, as I has been and stay a faithful supporter of Moldova’s European vector. They do not only speak about tolerance, democracy and well-being in the European area, but also act through sustained and correct policies. We should talk to people and explain them that the European integration is not only an act in itself; it is, first of all, security and a better future,’’ said Grigore Belostecinic, academician, the former rector of the Academy of Economic Studies from Moldova, who also signed the Pact For Europe today.

For his part, a member of the Parliament-90, Vlad Darie, said that the signing of this document was a historical act, just as the Declaration of Independence had been. The former lawmaker voiced confidence that the wish for peace and prosperity would be clearly expressed by all Moldova’s citizens at the referendum due on 20 October – ‘’a referendum about the future of the next generations.’’

On 26 May this year, the Pact For Europe was signed by the Ecologist Party of Moldova, the Action and Solidarity Party, the Party of Development and Consolidation of Moldova, Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova. European Social Democratic Party, National Liberal Party, People’s Power Party, National Alternative Movement Party, Dignity and Truth Party, Party of Change, League of Cities and Communes, Coalition for Unity and Welfare, People’s Will Political Party.

The Pact for Europe is a document resembling the one signed in Snagov (Romania) in 1994, when the political forces ruled to join their energies to achieve the strategic goal of accession to the European Union.
