EU provides support to National Army of Moldova

Chisinau, 12 June /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union today provided the National Army with 16 ambulances and devices for the consolidation of the capacities of destruction of explosive. The support is provided for enhancing the national defence capacities.
Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii stressed that the assistance represented a part of the assistance provided through the Peace Platform. The official noted that ‘’in the present context of regional security, Moldova needs more than ever assistance, in order to enhance the national resilience to the hybrid threats and to ensure the peace and stability of the citizens.’’
„The assets contribute to the modernization and development of the engineering and medical capabilities of our institutions. They represent a solid support provided by EU for the consolidation of the national defence capacities. EU is with Moldova in the carrying out of the efforts of keeping peace, the goals of strengthening the national resilience and modernization of the defence sector. The support represents a telling proof of EU’s receptiveness to our requests and a significant assistance, in order to be able to consolidate our defence capacity and fulfill our constitutional tasks. The equipment provided is used by specialists from the medical and engineering subdivisions of the National Army. All investments in defence are made to ensure the peace and calm in our country. In last April, the EU Council approved a new assistance worth 41 million euros, which will allow buying non-lethal equipment in the engineering field, logistics, communications, cyber defence, air defence and transport. The projects which are to be implemented in the years to come show that Moldova sees EU as a strong and reliable partner, which helps us in our goal of backing the stability in the country and in the region,’’ Anatolie Nosatii said.
For his part, Head of the European Union’s Delegation in Moldova, Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks said that, so far, EU had adopted measures of support for the armed forces amounting to 137 million euros.
„Other assets will arrive this year and next year. We will provide support for logistics, mobility, command and control, cyber defence, tactical communications, air supervision and electronics. The resilience of Moldova is also our resilience,’’ the official stressed.
The European Peace Facility support platform was launched in 2021. Also at that time, the first instalment of assistance for Moldova’s defence system, worth 7 million euros, was approved and the support reached 87 million euros in almost three years.
