Moldovan president has discussions with more European, north American officials at Ukraine Peace Summit

Chisinau, 16 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu on 15-16 June participated in the Ukraine Peace Summit, hosted by Switzerland. The event brought together leaders from 100 countries and international organizations, who reaffirmed the commitment for a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine and in Europe, according to a press release by Moldova’s Presidency.
In her message from the first day of the summit, the head of state stressed: ‘’The peace in Ukraine is the peace in Moldova.’’ The head of state noted that the peace was not capitulation to the aggressor and the occupation of areas of a sovereign country cannot be foundation of a just and sustainable peace.
At the event, the Moldovan president had discussions with more heads of state and government. ‘’Moldova has many friends all over the world. I met again many of them at the Ukraine Peace Summit, hosted by Switzerland. ‘’
The head of state had meetings with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, the leaders of the EU member states: Presidents Alexander Stubb (Finland), Emmanuel Macron (France), Edgars Rinkevics (Latvia), Gitanas Nausėda (Lithuania), Jonas Gahr Støre (Norway), Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa (Portugal) and Nataša Pirc Musar (Slovenia), as well as with prime ministers Kaja Kallas (Estonia) and Kyriakos Mitsotakis (Greece). The head of state also had discussions with President of Albania Bajram Begaj, President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili and President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović – countries with which we have common wish of accession to EU. At the same time, the Moldovan president had dialogues with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and Council of Europe’s Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić.
The discussions were focused on the strengthening of the friendship and cooperation relations for the benefit of the Moldovan citizens. ‘’The international partners see Moldova as a reliable ally in the promotion of peace – at home, in Europe and in the world. This unity and the constructive dialogue with our international partners are essential for ensuring a prosperous and peaceful future for Moldova,’’ the head of state added.
