Following Population and Housing Census, post-census survey to be conducted in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 June. /MOLDPRES/- After the completion of the Population and Housing Census, a Post-Census Survey will be conducted in our country, which includes a subset of questions from the questionnaires used in the census and is conducted on a representative sample of the population. This survey will measure, in particular, the coverage of the population with usual residence and the accuracy of some of the data collected in the census.
Head of the General Directorate of Statistical Methods and Innovations of the National Statistics Bureau (BNS) Lilian Galer said that the post-census survey will be conducted from 15 July to 4 August. The exercise will be organised in localities throughout the country.
The draft Post-Census Survey of the 2024 Population and Housing Census has been proposed for public consultation.
The Population and Housing Census was launched on 8 April and will run until 7 July this year. During this period, some 4,000 census takers will go from house to house to collect data on the population and its characteristics, such as age, gender, ethnicity, level of education, occupation, etc., as well as housing and living conditions, such as sewage and water supply, heating, etc.
According to preliminary data, by the end of 16 June this year, some 1,614,000 dwellings and some 2,361,000 persons had been enumerated in the Population and Housing Census. The number of enumerated population includes both persons with usual residence and persons without usual residence in the Republic of Moldova, including possible duplicates, which will be identified at the processing stage.
The census is carried out once every ten years and is a nationwide activity providing a complete demographic picture of the country. The data will inform the development of national and local public policies necessary for the economic and social development of the country.
