National Mourning in Moldova

Chisinau, June 24 /MOLDPRES/- Day of mourning in the Republic of Moldova. Writer Spiridon Vangheli will be buried on June 24. President Maia Sandu has decreed today a day of national mourning in memory of the writer.
Moldovan citizens will be able to bid farewell to Spiridon Vangheli at the National Palace, where the coffin of the distinguished writer's body will be laid to rest from 10:00 am. The funeral cortege will move from the Church St. Teodora de la Sihla to the National Palace between 09.40 and 09.50.
At 10:00, the funeral ceremony will begin at the National Palace.
Spiridon Vangheli will be buried at the Central Cemetery in Chisinau. The funeral cortege will move to the writer's resting place at 12:30.
Writer Spiridon Vangheli died on June 21, at the age of 92. Nicknamed "Guguță's father", Vangheli enjoyed great popularity among readers, especially children and their parents.
The Moldovan government has sent condolences to the writer's family, expressing regret at his passing.
Spiridon Vangheli was awarded Andersen International Honorary Diploma, Mihai Eminescu medal, Order of the Republic, the State Prize of the MSSR, Ion Creangă Prize of the Romanian Academy, the title of Master of Art and Writer of the People.
