Moldova starts EU accession negotiations

Chisinau, 25 June /MOLDPRES/- European Parliament President Roberta Metsola says that the official start of EU accession negotiations of Moldova and Ukraine is "an important moment" for Europe, "Our common future begins now," the official said.

"This is an important moment that strengthens us, that binds us as one family. Our common future starts now", Roberta Metsola emphasized.

The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine start EU accession negotiations on Tuesday, June 25. They will be formally launched at an intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg today.

The country position of the Republic of Moldova will be presented in Luxembourg by the government delegation led by Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The document was approved at the June 21 cabinet meeting. "The European integration plan of the Republic of Moldova is ambitious but realistic, with very clear indicators for each negotiating chapter, which will bring direct benefits to every person in our country", said Dorin Recean.

The start of EU accession negotiations of Moldova and Ukraine was also welcomed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The European official appreciates the efforts made by the two countries on the path of European integration and assures that the European institutions will be open to this process.

Today's meeting will be attended by all 27 Member States of the European Union at the level of foreign or European affairs ministers, as well as the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine as candidate countries. The meeting will be chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, which holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union until the end of June.
