Moldova, Ukraine to maintain constant dialogue on European agenda

Chisinau, 25 June /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova and Ukraine will maintain a constant dialogue on the European agenda. The deputy prime ministers in charge of the European integration from the two countries, Cristina Gherasimov and Olha Stefanishyna, agreed on this fact in Luxembourg. ‘’The European way is the only one which will guarantee us the peace,’’ the Moldovan official said at the meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart.      

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov today had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna in Luxembourg.     

„We agreed on maintaining a constant dialogue on the European agenda and to exchange ideas and good practices for the good implementation of the EU acquis. This is a great happiness that, just two years after the getting of the status of country candidate for accession to EU; we have managed to cover all steps for being able to switch to the next stage. Both for Moldova and Ukraine, the European way is the only one which will guarantee us the peace, freedom and prosperity,’’ Cristina Gherasimov said.     

In Luxembourg, Olha Stefanishyna and the Moldovan delegation led by Prime Minister Dorin Recean discussed the achievements got by Moldova and Ukraine on the European integration path. The sides stressed the fact that the strengthening of the European community was particularly important, taking into account the Russian aggression against Ukraine. ‘’The acceleration of the rapprochement with the European Union has become an existential imperative for Moldova and Ukraine, so that we can ensure the security of the borders and the citizens,’’ Dorin Recean said.    

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the first intergovernmental conference dedicated to the official opening of the negotiations on accession to the European Union for Moldova and Ukraine.  

The event was welcomed by the European leaders and was described as one of historical importance.
