Moldovan PM, deputy PM of Ukraine discuss common European integration path

Chisinau, 25 June /MOLDPRES/ - 25 June, 2024, Luxembourg - Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna today discussed the common European integration path followed by Moldova and Ukraine, the government’s press release reads.     

The two officials congratulated each other on the starting of the historic process of accession to the European Union. The officials gave assurances that they would make efforts, in order to negotiate the best conditions for accession, for the good of the citizens.  

At the same time, the sides stressed that the strengthening of the European community was particularly important, taking into account the Russian aggression in Ukraine. ‘’The speeding up of the rapprochement with the European Union has become an existential imperative for Moldova and Ukraine, so that we are able to ensure the security of the borders and citizens,’’ Dorin Recean said.   

During the discussion, the officials pointed out the achievements registered by both countries in the European integration process, the one of adjusting the national legislative frameworks to the European one and of implementation of the reforms’ agendas. All these stayed at the basis of the positive evaluation of the European Commission, as well as of the decision of the EU member states’ ambassadors to approve the frameworks of negotiation for Moldova and Ukraine.  

Also, Dorin Recean and Olha Stefanishyna agreed on continuing the constructive dialogue and the mutual support for joining the great European family, including through the turning to good account of the instruments of assistance and expertise provided by EU. Through these instruments, projects on infrastructure, strengthening the borders will be developed, as well as the institutional capacities of the structures working for the European integration of the two states will be consolidated.
