North-Center railway corridor to be rehabilitated

Chisinau, July 3 /MOLDPRES/- North-Center railway corridor: Vălcineț-Ocnița-Balti-Ungheni-Chisinau-Căinari will be repaired with the financial support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which will grant our country a loan of over 18 million euros. The repair works are expected to be completed by late 2025.

The government approved today the ratification of the Amendment Agreement No. 1 to the Loan Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development RLF -  Moldovan Railways Crisis Response.

The project provides for the allocation of a loan amounting to EUR 18.205 million for the rehabilitation of the North-Center railway corridor within the framework of the Corridors of Solidarity initiative.

The section of railway connects the industrial environment in the north and center of the Republic of Moldova, including the free economic zones of Marculesti, Balti, Ungheni and Chisinau. The corridor is important for the export, import and transit of goods from Romania and Ukraine. In addition, this section connects the railway corridor Căinari-Cimișlia-Basarabeasca-Giurgiulești, being used for the logistics of goods transhipped in the Danube and Black Sea ports.
