European Village // Over 640 residents of Mereni, Anenii Noi, have access to modern sewerage system

Chisinau, July 13 /MOLDPRES/- Over 640 residents of Mereni village, Anenii Noi district have access to a modern sewage system, thanks to a project implemented under the European Village program, financially supported by the Romanian government.
Under the project, 5.3 km of sewage networks and a sewage treatment plant with a daily capacity of 75 cubic meters were built. The sewerage system will provide sanitation services for 213 households in Mereni.
According to Alexandru Bîrca, Mereni mayor, this project is a first step towards improving the living conditions of inhabitants, who have been waiting for a centralized sewage system for decades.
The project is being implemented under the cross-border cooperation with Romania to promote sustainable development of localities in the Republic of Moldova.
The total cost of the project is 11.1 million lei. About 4.6 million lei (equivalent to 236 thousand euros) has been provided in the form of a grant from the Romanian Government. Over 6.3 million lei - was offered by the Government of the Republic of Moldova through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (FNDRL), and the community of Mereni contributed 508 thousand lei.
The project is financed under the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on the implementation of the technical and financial assistance program, under which the Republic of Moldova benefits from a non-reimbursable financial aid of 100 million euros granted by the Government of Bucharest.
