Fire risk at Marculești airport

Chisinau, July 16 /MOLDPRES/- An extensive vegetation fire was registered yesterday in Lunga, Floresti district. The fire, which consumed 80 hectares of vegetation was spreading rapidly towards the territory of the Marculești airport. Eight fire-fighting and military teams intervened to put out the blaze.
According to the recorded data, the fire affected the dry grass and was spreading rapidly towards the territory of Marculești airport. To extinguish the flames, eight firefighting teams, armed forces employees with a fire truck and two tractors arrived on the spot.
Thanks to the efficient intervention of the involved forces, the fire did not spread to the runways, aircraft and warehouses on the airport territory.
Also yesterday afternoon, another vegetation fire was registered in Cahul.
Firefighters from the south of the country intervened in accordance with the increased level of intervention jointly with local public authorities to extinguish the blaze, which engulfed a forest and dry vegetation on the outskirts of the city. In total, 51 rescuers from the Inspectorate with 15 technical units and 50 employees with eight technical units from the local public authorities were involved in the forest firefighting mission.
IGSU data show that in the last 24 hours alone vegetation fires have destroyed over 120 hectares of land. The vegetation fires were recorded in several districts, including Cahul, Сimișlia, Nisporeni, Călărași, Soroca, Florești, Ștefan Vodă. The greatest damage following the outbreaks of dry vegetation fires occurred in Cahul and Floresti districts.
According to the warning issued by the State Hydrometeorological Service, until July 22, 2024, due to high temperatures and lack of precipitation, exceptional fire danger (class V) will be maintained over large areas.
In this context, the IGSU repeatedly warns the population about the risk of forest and dry vegetation fires over large areas. Their outbreak may cause significant material damage to the environment, the housing sector and may pose an eminent risk to human life and health.
