Moldovan firefighters reached Greece

Chisinau, July 16 /MOLDPRES/- 20 firefighters with five technical units of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (GIGSU) have arrived in the Hellenic Republic. They were deployed to the operations base in the town of Nea-Makri, ready to intervene in fire-fighting missions as needed, alongside their Greek colleagues.
According to IGSU, the Moldovan firefighters joined the intervention teams from 12 countries, namely Romania, Bulgaria, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Austria, France, Spain.
The IGSU forest firefighting ground firefighting teams are trained in the execution of specific emergency monitoring missions on the territory of Greece within the Operational Center, and depending on the dynamics of the situations on the ground, they will intervene to supplement the teams with technical equipment and manpower.
The rotation will take place on July 29, 2024, and another 20 Moldovan firefighters will be deployed in the Nea-Makri region with two technical units.
The programme is organized under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
The aim of the program is to reduce the response time in case of forest fires by carrying out specific monitoring and extinguishing missions in the locations established by the local forces, to streamline the training of the teams and to improve their interoperability.
