Moldovan foreign affairs minister in Dublin tackles subjects on boosting bilateral cooperation, regional security

Chisinau, 26 July /MOLDPRES/ - The boosting of the cooperation relations between Moldova and Ireland, the regional security have been the principal subjects discussed at a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Ireland Seán Ó Fearghaíl, as well as Foreign and Affairs and Defence Minister of Ireland Micheál Martin.  

„We discussed the European agenda of Moldova and the regional security. We are happy with the fact that Ireland is active backer of the process of Moldova‘s integration into the European Union. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence of Ireland Micheál Martin assured us of the continuous support on behalf of Ireland,  order to edify a modern, stable and prosperous country,’’ Popsoi said.   

At the same time, the officials referred also to ways of fostering the commercial, economic and cultural cooperation. ‘’ We committed to create new opportunities for the community of Moldovans from Ireland,’’ Popsoi noted.

At the meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Irish Parliament, Seán Ó Fearghaíl, the Moldovan minister said that there was also a close cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries. ‘’We stressed the importance of the parliamentary diplomacy in the promotion of the friendship relations and the deepening of the ties with the European Union states, in the context of Moldova’s European integration,’’ Mihai Popsoi also said.     

„The European road generates opportunities – through investments in the economy and infrastructure, through improving the quality of the life and social protection. You have make remarkable steps and we will support, in continuation, all efforts of your country to turn to good account the opportunities provided by the capacity of European Union member,’’ Seán Ó Fearghaíl said.   

The officials also touched upon the investment event, Diaspora Invest. We Invest at Home, recently held in Dublin. Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Irish Parliament Seán Ó Fearghaíl appreciated the activities of the Moldovan Diaspora in Ireland and the positive influence of the investment and cultural initiatives on the consolidation of the bilateral relations between the two states.  

Mihai Popsoi emphasized that, almost 25 years after the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Moldova and Ireland, the Moldovan-Irish cooperation now witnessed a particular boosting. Also, the Irish government informed that it would open an embassy in Chisinau, which will contribute significantly to the consolidation of the economic relations between the two countries.
