First consignment of rails from Kazakhstan brought to Moldova for railways' capital repair

Chisinau, 30 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Railway of Moldova enterprise (CFM) has informed that the first consignment of rails, meant for the capital repair of the railways of Moldova, were brought to the Giurgiulesti International Free Port.
The works, due to be carried out by the Kazakh company Temirzhol Zhondeu, include measures of designing and rehabilitation of the railway on the segment Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti, with an overall length of 233 km. ‘’This will be significant for enhancing the capacity of railway transport, shortening the time of travel and adjusting the features of Moldova’s railway infrastructure to the current European standards and regulations,’’ CFM said.
The project on reconstruction of railways from Moldova, worth over 150 million euros, regards the improvement of the railway infrastructure and modernization of the rolling stock, in order to allow the Railway of Moldova enterprise improving the efficiency and safety of the railway services along the South Moldova railway corridor. The project is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and the European Union.
