Chisinau, Aug. 14 /MOLDPRES/- Gagauzia mayors met yesterday in Comrat to learn about the advantages of joining the European initiative - Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. This in the context of the fact that the municipality of Comrat received the status of a member of the Convention, becoming the 100th signatory registered in the online system of the Convention.
"The event in Comrat was also an excellent opportunity to discuss the results achieved by other signatories, such as Cantemir, Feștelița, Călărași, Ocnița and other cities, and to inspire potential new signatories," the EU Delegation to Moldova said.
The Covenant of Mayors plays a key role in supporting local authorities, helping them develop more sustainable and resilient communities.
The European Union, through the Covenant, offers support to communities in the Republic of Moldova that are committed to energy transition and greening their territories.
Gagauzia had so far two active signatories to the Convention: Ceadir-Lunga and Tomai.
