Environment Ministers of Moldova, Ukraine sign agreement on implementation of Espoo Convention

Chisinau, Aug 16 /MOLDPRES/- Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarencu is on an official visit to Ukraine. The visit began yesterday in Odessa, where the official together with his Ukrainian counterpart, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strelets signed an agreement on implementation of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo).
Under the agreement, Moldova and Ukraine are committed to take all necessary measures to prevent, reduce and minimize potential transboundary environmental impacts. It is a joint commitment to ensure effective implementation of sustainable and healthy environmental policies for future generations.
"Russia's cruel and unjust war in Ukraine is causing loss of life, damaging economy and environment. The negative effects of environmental destruction are not limited to the border. We will work together to mitigate the negative effects on the environment and make sure that all social, economic and infrastructure projects will be developed without compromising nature", said Lazarencu.
During the day, Lazarencu visited several targets affected by the Russian aggression. The official visit will continue in Kyiv.
