Methodology for monitoring online campaign financing discussed at CEC

Chisinau, Aug 20 /MOLDPRES/- A new methodology for monitoring the online financing of electoral campaigns was presented to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), a document drafted by experts of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance.
The presentation was attended by officials from the Central Electoral Commission, civil society representatives and development partners of the Commission.
In the context, the Moldovan legislation in monitoring and supervision of online campaign financing, diversity of online platforms for distributing political and electoral advertising and way of monitoring them were analyzed.
The experts analyzed the online environment in the country, the platforms through which advertising can be distributed by political actors, including the tools available to the authorities to obtain information from the managers of these platforms on advertising expenditure.
The participants in the discussions were interested in the method of implementing mechanisms for effective monitoring of online content, including the disinformation component.
"Through strict monitoring and regulatory measures, the Commission ensures a fair framework for political competition, preventing external influences or financial interests that could distort democratic processes in our country," the CEC statement said.
The electoral period for the presidential elections and republican referendum started on August 1, and the election campaign will start on September 20.
