Moldovan PM meets German Federal Chancellor at government's headquarters

Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, on a working visit to Moldova, was met by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the government’s headquarters.
The official was met with military honours. The national anthems of the two countries were heard at the official ceremony of meeting.
„This is a much expected visit, which will boost even more the close cooperation relations between Moldova and Germany. The German chancellor, during his visit to Chisinau today afternoon, will have meetings with Prime Minister Dorin Recean and afterwards with President Maia Sandu, with whom he will hold a news conference. At present, there is a community of common values between Moldova and Germany. We appreciate Germany’s support for the European integration process. German companies work in Moldova and our fellow countrymen from Germany also have possibility to be active participants in the social and political life,’’ the spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, said after a today’s government meeting.
Daniel Voda also said that the agenda of the discussions with the German chancellor ‘’includes subjects at the bilateral level and the agenda of discussions in the context of the country’s rapprochement with the EU area.’’
Following the discussions at the government, the German federal chancellor will go to the Presidency, where he will have a meeting with President Maia Sandu. Subsequently, the two leaders will give a joint news conference.
According to the presidential institution, this visit emphasizes the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, as Germany is one of the most important partners of Moldova in the process of the country’s modernization and accession to the European Union.
Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz today pays a working visit to Moldova, at an invitation by President Maia Sandu.
Olaf Scholz a visited Moldova on 1 June 2023, when he participated in the Summit of the European Political Community, held in Bulboaca. At the same time, the last bilateral visit by a German chancellor to Moldova took place 12 years ago.
Germany is one of the western countries which opened a diplomatic mission in Moldova on 31 October 1992, just half a year following the establishment of the diplomatic relations.
