Presidents of Moldova, Romania in Chisinau sign Joint Declaration on bilateral cooperation for consolidation of Moldova's resilience

Chisinau, 31 August /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova and Romania will cooperate for the consolidation of Moldova’s resilience. Moldovan President of Maia Sandu and President of Romania Klaus Iohannis today signed a joint declaration to this end.
The Moldovan president said that the visit by the Romanian head of state took place on a symbolical day for both countries – Romanian Language Day. ‘’I greet you with happiness and gratitude on a new visit to Moldova, such a symbolical visit today, when we mark the Romanian Language Day, the language which unites us and in which we experience both the joy and the grieves. I avail myself of this occasion to congratulate you, Mr. President, and congratulate all speakers of the Romanian language,’’ Maia Sandu said.
„The joint declaration on the bilateral cooperation for the consolidation of Moldova’s resilience’’ reaffirms Romania’s firm support before numerous challenges, President Maia Sandu noted. She stressed the role played by Romania to back the efforts of the Moldovan authorities to strengthen the energy independence.
„The relations between Moldova and Romania have always been solid; yet, at present, Chisinau and Bucharest enjoy the deepest and strongest relation in our history. We are grateful to Romania for the support provided for the consolidation of Moldova’s resilience and the declaration signed today reaffirms your firm support before numerous challenges we face. Romania plays an essential role in backing our efforts of consolidation of Moldova’s energy independence,’’ Maia Sandu said.
„We today signed a joint declaration on Moldova’s resilience. This is a political document which supports and strengthens the bilateral cooperation in this vital sector and recognizes the important steps which the Moldovan authorities have made on the European integration way in the last years. At the same time, this declaration represents a reconfirmation of the multidimensional support which Romania provides Moldova for the consolidation of the institutional resilience and at the level of the society,’’ Klaus Iohannis said, for his part.
President Maia Sandu said that the construction of the overhead power line Isaccea-Vulcanesti-Chisinau was in full swing and the works on the Suceava-Balti line would start soon. These lines will connect the electricity network of Moldova to the Romanian one and the European market.
Since 2021, when the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline was put into operation, Moldova has no longer depended on a single provider of natural gas and can ensure the necessary quantity for consumption of the citizens from the right bank of Dniester by purchasing gas on the European market.
At the same time, the Moldovan authorities appreciate Romania’s contribution to the building of five road bridges across the Prut river, modernization of the settlements from Moldova, reconstruction of kindergartens, pupils’ supply with school buses.
President Maia Sandu and President Klaus Iohannis visited the Alley of Classics from the Stefan cel Mare Public Garden, where they laid flowers.
