Chisinau, 4 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) reminds to the voters from abroad that the period of preliminary registration for the participation in the current autumn elections ends in three days.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the head of the communications, public relations and mass media department of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Rodica Sarbu, said that the need of the preliminary registration consisted in establishing the estimated number of voters who express their intention to vote at one of polling stations from outside Moldova.
„This is one of the three criteria established by the electoral law which, along with the information on the dynamic of voters’ participation in the last three national ballots and the data provided by MAE on the number and place of stay of Moldovan citizens abroad, will stay at the basis of the authorities’ decision on the organization of polling stations abroad,’’ Rodica Sarbu said.
At the same time, the voters from the USA, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Iceland can register to vote by correspondence. According to CEC’s data, so far, over 1,220 people have registered for the vote by correspondence.
The registration can be made at the email: https://inregistrare.cec.md. The deadline for the preliminary registration is 6 September 2024.
Also, CEC has earlier proposed the list of possible polling stations opened abroad for public consultations. Their number would be about 280.
The elections for the office of Moldova’s president will be held on 20 October 2024. The republican constitutional referendum will be organized on the same day. The citizens will have to answer the question: ‘’Do you support the amendment of the Constitution for Moldova’s accession to the European Union?’’
