Moldovan government approves allocation of 100 million lei to farmers hit by drought, heat

Chisinau, 11 September /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers has approved the allocation of 100 million lei for the partial compensation of the losses of the farmers whose harvest was seriously hit by the last summer drought and heat, the government’s communication departed reported.
The money will be earmarked from the government’s intervention fund and will be distributed by the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA), through the Agency of Intervention and Payments for Agriculture (AIPA). The ministry has already approved a regulation to this end.
Thus, the farmers whom the drought hit at least 60 per cent of the harvest of maize and at least 70- per cent of the harvest of wheat will receive compensations. The maximal value of the compensations cannot exceed the sum of 500,000 lei per one applicant.
Compensations will not be provided to the farmers who have lands in the area of servicing of a centralized irrigation system or who benefited from subsidized insurance of the lands.
