Moldovan head of state participated in signing of agreement with EIB

Chisinau, 17 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Within Moldova Partnership Platform, the country signed nine international agreements to speed up modernization. One of these documents is the loan agreement signed by the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Finance and the National Office for Implementation of Projects in the Environment, on the one hand, and the European Investment Bank (EIB), on the other. The funding comes in support of the National Forest Extension and Rehabilitation Program, initiated by President Maia Sandu, the presidential press service has reported.
"We want a green country, covered with more forests, to have clean air, more fertile soil, more water in rivers and lakes and healthy people. A few years ago we started with an ambitious project - the rehabilitation and planting of 145 thousand hectares of forests, a project that will bring benefits not only for us, but also for the next generations", Maia Sandu said after signing the financing agreement on planting and rehabilitation of degraded lands and forests.
The head of state noted that today, the EIB joined the efforts of the authorities through an investment of 200 million euros. "This funding will support the rehabilitation of over 63 thousand hectares of degraded land and forests, between 2024 and 2028. We will also invest in forestry infrastructure and equipment to manage our forests to European standards and create new jobs in the forestry. It is a step forward towards a greener and safer future for the Republic of Moldova", Maia Sandu said.
